El Estrecho Nature Park
The southernmost tip of Spain
This park is located at the southernmost tip of Spain, and covers approximately 18,930 hectares of land. Thousands of birds fly over this area year after year on their way to the warmer climate of the African continent, as only 14 kilometres separate Africa from Europe. For hundreds of years this area has also been an important route for mankind. El Estrecho Nature Park holds a privileged position, as it is located at the exact point where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet. Its climate is extremely mild and has a dry season where not a drop of rain falls for weeks on end.
Culturally, one of the parks main attractions are the ruins of Baelo Claudio, one of the best-known examples of a well-preserved Roman city. There are over 15 kilometres of beaches in the park, providing great opportunities for all types of water sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and scuba diving. One of the most spectacular beaches in the area is that of Los Lances. For years this park has been one of the main tourist centres on the southern coast of Spain, and summer after summer hundreds of surfers flock to the area searching for adventure.
