Caños de Meca is well off the beaten track, and has to be reached by taking one of the small side roads off the N-340 coast road near Vejer de la Frontera or through the pine forest from Barbate.
The town itself is not very big - comprising one road, and although there are no nightclubs in the town you can head down to one of the beach bars below where the music stops when the last person decides to call it a night or simply falls asleep on the beach.
During the summer - June till September - the high street is lined with market stalls selling unusual clothes, handmade jewellery and ceramics.
Despite the fact that it is practically impossible to escape from the occasional block of flats, Caños de Meca has undergone little modern development.
