Benalup
A young town with a lot of history. A great choice for golfers.Benalup Casa-Viejas is slowly but surely waking up to the 21st century. For years, this town was essentially agricultural and didn't have much to offer in the more touristy sense. However, in recent years it has become known in the leisure and tourist industry for its excellent golf course. A second course is currently under construction and there are plans for a third.
Two things not to be missed on your next visit:
1. Walk the cork tree forest: there are dozens of routes to choose from, and all vary in length and difficulty. Most of the routes are marked out but careful or you might end walking around in circles for hours on end.
2. Check out the local cuisine: just before you come to Benalup there are a couple of excellent 'ventas' on the side of the road. Eating in a venta is the best way to sample good, traditional, homemade food. And all for next to nothing!
